What motivates an employee to wake up early in the morning and feel excited to go to work? Many people would think that this employee holds a high managerial post or earns a good salary. This is true to some extent, but some employees really enjoy their work due to the positive energy shared among them and their colleagues. Thus, the importance of positive management at work is considered.
Positive management behavior is mostly linked to leadership. As discussed in our previous post Leadership or Management: What is the future? , leaders tend to invest in their employees. One of the strong motivational forces that help staff to achieve and enjoy their work is positive environment setting.
One of the first things managers need to focus on when creating a positive environment is to avoid any negative feedback or criticism. Surely, some employees make mistakes from time to time and need to be informed about such mistakes, but make sure to add some positive twist to your negative criticism to motivate employees.
Another important thing is to keep communicating with your staff. Effective communication is really key, for it helps in avoiding clashes between employees. It also helps in resolving conflicts and misunderstandings. It is important to note that a manager should always give his employees the chance to express themselves in such cases and to take the role of the mediator rather than to force resolutions.
It has always been said that justice is balance, and that is so true! So, it is very important to be fair and just between employees. Favoring employees just because they skip their lunch break or enjoy watching a football game with a manager is really a bad thing to do, because it creates a negative feeling among other employees at work. In other words, don’t mix personal relationships with professional relationships. Simply put, treat everyone in a fair manner, this will surely motivate employees.
Employee motivation is highly affected by you being honest and humble. Surely honesty is the best policy when dealing with your employees. Never promise them something you cannot deliver. Also be humble, it is true that by hierarchy you can force things upon your employees, but you won’t be creating the positive environment we are talking about. Try to reach out to everyone, even employees at the lowest levels, they will really appreciate it.
We have tackled some points which can create a positive environment at work. Can you share with us other points? don’t hesitate to share your thoughts by filling the comment box below. Thanks for reading, stay positive, and keep motivating your employees!!!
