Stress .. What a “stressful” word. Too many s’esses in it. You can feel the choice of this word’s structure matches its impact on emotions. In this article we are not targeting the definition of stress (check out this article on stress definition). What we are looking at is a summary of techniques which target answering the modern ages question: How to relieve stress at work?
I have been a victim of stress for so long. Cured? cannot claim to be fully healed, every now and then i still get these stress glimpses, but I do find it in me to have been able to overcome high levels of stress in my life, and in particular at work environment. In fact, work seems to be one of the key causes of stress, and this is reasonable as one spends over 8 hours of his day at work, and hence work time is influencing if not shaping your personality and your life.
So, how do I go about getting rid of stress at work? It’s all in your head! Oversimplification? Not really. Yes I have come to realize this after a long time. You need to be aware you are the master of your world. Any situation that can cause you stress will only do so if you allow it. And the solution is in, of course, NOT allowing it.
Let us think about this for a second; Whatever situation you are facing, can be one of two: Either you have control over it, or you don’t. If you do have control over it, then work on resolving it. If you do not have control over it, then learn to accept it. Period. There are no other alternatives. Either take action, or accept gracefully.
Stress is in fact, even if we do not wish to redefine it, yet a manifestation of your inability to accept reality through fighting back, or your fear of failure and its outcome. Now i am not saying to surrender, I am advising the exact opposite. Take control and think, what is the worse that can come out of this situation? It is never the end of the world, there will always be other chances. It will only be the end of the world if you let it be this way.
So in short, how to relieve stress at work? make it a habit to assess every situation, then deal with it positively. Change or accept.
